Testing Session May 10, 2025

The WVRA will be hosting an FCC license testing session on Saturday May 10 at 1:30pm. Location is Good News Church, 145919 Lowland Lane, Mosinee, WI, Room 102 (in main door by parking lot, to the right).

All license class tests will be offered. To register, email Michael at [email protected] Walk-ins are also allowed.

The FCC and ARRL VEC requires all examinees to have an FCC Registration Number (FRN) at the time of the exam. If you have a current license with the FCC (amateur, GMRS, commercial, or other) you may already have an FRN and will need to provide it at the time of the exam. Those who do not have an FRN can obtain one by going to https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/support/universal-licensing-system-uls-resources/getting-fcc-registration-number-frn and bring it to the exam .

Exam cost – $15 (cash or check) Test requirements – Photo ID (minors can use birth certificate, social security card or other government issued ID when accompanied by parent/guardian), FRN, previous CSCE (if you have taken the test and are upgrading), $15 (cash or check). Exam administered by Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) accredited volunteer examiners in accordance with Federal Communication Commission (FCC) guidelines. Cost for exam cover expenses for filing license with FCC.

FCC Application Fee
The FCC charges an application fee for certain filings including new licenses, vanity call sign requests, and license renewals. (This is an addition to the testing fee collected at the exam site).  There are no fees for administrative updates, such as a change of name, mailing or email address, modification applications to upgrade an amateur radio licensee’s operator class or to request a sequentially issued call sign. You will receive an email from the FCC after your license application has been submitted with details on how to remit payment. More information is here: http://www.arrl.org/call-sign-renewals-or-changes

General questions can be directed to Michael Martens at [email protected]

We are in need of VEs to help administer the tests. If you are planning to help out as a VE, please drop me a quick note. Otherwise, see you on the 10th.
